The Healdsburg House sits on the eastern slope of the Russian River Valley in Northern California. Vineyards surround the property. The project team removed an existing house and detached garage to make room for new construction. The project introduces a two‑story single‑family residence, an infinity‑edge pool, a metal water tank, and a detached carport and workshop built from shipping containers.

A long, asymmetrical stair defines the approach from the street and leads visitors to the top of the hill. At the stair’s end, the design emphasizes the existing water tank as a focal point along the path and embraces its presence on the site. A breezeway then guides visitors into a central courtyard, where views extend toward the rolling landscape beyond the property. The upper level accommodates living, dining, and entertaining spaces, which open directly onto the courtyard. The lower level contains the bedrooms and wine cellar, integrating these spaces into the sloped terrain.

The design employs an exposed structural frame, overhead roll‑up doors, glass walls, concrete floors, exposed decks, and infill insulated metal panels. Through this material palette, the residence continues the office’s exploration of industrial materials within a natural landscape. Site development introduces board‑formed concrete walls, Corten steel walls, and a bocce ball court. Drought‑resistant native landscaping reinforces the connection to the site. The project also incorporates photovoltaic panels, a heat‑pump system, and an on‑site well connected to the water tank.
